The face of community support: Join the WA Police Force as a Customer Service Officer

One of the key benefits of joining the WA Police Force as a front counter Customer Service Officer is a chance to help the community, with more than 100 officers currently working at police stations across the State.

A vital role at police stations

Customer Service Officers are the first point of contact for the public and responsible for a range of front counter duties, including:

  • Greeting and assisting members of the public at the front counter with queries
  • Answering phone calls
  • Supporting police officers in day-today station operations with administrative support.

Their role is an integral part of ensuring each police station runs smoothly and provides the highest level of support to the community.

Essential skills and qualities that matter

Perth Police Station Inspector and Officer in Charge, Natasha Rogers, highlights that strong communication skills, empathy, and professionalism are essential for the role.

“Quite often when you come to the front counter of a police station, for some people, they’ve just experienced, or previously experienced, one of the most difficult events they may ever go through,” she says.

“They are walking into the police station for help and assistance from police, and the Customer Service Officer is the face of the station, so they are the first people that the person will see when they walk in.”

Some Customer Service Officer roles also involve shift work, particularly at 24-hour police stations, which provides flexibility and a varied work experience.

Comprehensive onsite training is provided to ensure familiarity with police communication systems. Previous computer experience is also considered an advantage.
